My Students

This 4th grade class is full of incredible students from around the world. They bring rich experiences to our classroom from their countries of birth such as Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, and Yemen. These students are members of a Title 1 urban school in Richmond, CA, a school where all students qualify for the free breakfast and free lunch program.

They are eager and happy to learn, despite exhausting social, emotional, and environmental challenges.

Their courage, strength, and excitement for learning power them through each day. Although many of my students arrive to school hungry and tired, they still jump out of their seats and race to our growing classroom library to be the first to choose a book to explore. My students are sweet, inquisitive, caring, curious, empathetic, problem solvers. These children are truly remarkable young people. They deserve the best and more!!

My Project

4th graders love learning about earthquakes! The Earth Dragon Awakes is a great novel which tells a story about a child living in San Francisco during the devastating 1906 earthquake. Donating to this project will put a brand new copy of this book into the hands of every student.

If every child in my class has access to this book, we will be able to hold rich conversations about what life was like in the early days of California.

Students will also read about the social, emotional, and structural changes that happened within California after the earthquake. Reading this book will encourage connections to the and spark interest in learning about California history.
