Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with bilingual students, many of them new to the country. All of them are at different stages of language progression, with the bulk of them at the beginning and emerging stages. A hundred percent of my students come from low income or no income families, and for this reason, all of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many parents are unable to provide school supplies, uniforms and pay for school trips.
The school provides many backpacks with school supplies. In addition, uniforms are given to the students due to the fact that they are living in shelters. The school had financial assistance for students who cannot afford to pay for educational trips. Many of my students arrive very early to school, and at dismissal, wish they could stay.
My Project
In a world where we swipe our cards, or pay with apps, our students are becoming less familiar with concepts of money. I want to provide my students with the opportunity to learn to earn and save "money" with the purpose of spending it on items they want to "purchase" from our classroom store.
My project aims to enable students to manipulate money on a daily basis as they learn to earn, save and spend their 'money' responsibly.
For this project I am asking for flash cards, sticky hands, bracelets, invisible ink pens, and slime, etc. Students really love these items and will be motivated to earn, save and spend the money they earn for positive behaviors.
