This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a literacy teacher who works with teachers, special needs students, and general education students to improve literacy skills.
I currently see over 200 students, including students with special needs, English language learners, and gifted students.
Almost 93% of our school is considered low-income and receives free or reduced-rate lunches. The student body consists of 65% Latino, 30% African American, and 5% Caucasian. They are eager to learn and have a passionate drive to excel. We are always trying to introduce our students to authentic books in order to create lifelong readers.
My Project
My students need picture books for our brand new vending machine!
We are so lucky to have three book vending machines at our school, but now we need some wonderful books to fill it!
During these difficult times, it is my job as a teacher to provide the best learning opportunities to my students.
These books will be given to students to take home and keep. We are hoping these books will allow the students to start their very own at-home library.
Our students have so many great books to read while here at school. The problem is, they do not have any at home! We will be implementing a reward system in order for our students to choose books from our vending machine. Once a student picks out a book, it will be theirs to keep!
Reading books at home is essential! Our students need the opportunity to have books at home to read with their families.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
