My students need engaging, hands-on math activities that will help them practice the math skills that are being learned. The self-checking Magnetic Board and Beginning Operations Cards will help the students to think through the addition process and to self-check their work.
I have a wonderful class of 20 kindergarteners in a public school in the city of Buffalo. Most of these students come from low-income households. Many students can not afford basic school supplies and I do what I can to provide them with these materials.
I have over five different languages spoken in my class, and over 30 different languages spoken in our school.
Some of my students do not speak any English at all, but they are learning. Some of these students have just come to America from other countries and some from refugee camps . It is challenging to teach students who speak limited to no English, but it is also very rewarding.
My students love to learn! These additional resources that can be provided to them will continue to encourage this love of learning!
My Project
My kindergarteners spend time each day exploring in independent learning areas. These areas need to be engaging and easy to use independently to be successful.
The math activities that I am requesting will provide the students with an opportunity to practice the addition skills that are being introduced in kindergarten.
The self-checking Magnetic Board and Beginning Operations Cards will help the students to think through the addition process and to self-check their work. The magnetic action is a fun way to keep them engaged. The Addition Flip and Solve Board reinforces what is being taught in class. The flipping action adds a fun twist and the activities can be self-checked. The Read and Solve Word Problem Center will help to meet the needs of my more advanced students. This center provides enrichment to students who are ready to read and solve word problems in a fun way.
All of the activities that have been chosen are rigorous and engaging. By challenging the students with products that are fun will help them grow in their math experiences in kindergarten!
