This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My wonderful group of Kindergartners are eager to learn! The motto in my kindergarten classroom is "I think I can, I think I can" like "The Little Engine That Engine that could." When something seems difficult we never give up, we just try our best!

The students in my classroom have all been identifies as English Language Learners and face many challenges.

I teach at a Title One school in a lower income area. About 75% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. As a result, it is difficult to find funds, to get necessary tools that would help my students be successful.

My Project

At our school, we are fortunate to have technology in our classrooms to help our students learn in the 21st century. We live in the age of technology where many children learn through using learning programs on computers and iPads/tablets. Our district has purchased these programs to enhance our teaching that align with our curriculum and standards.

Students use these phonics, reading and math programs daily to help them become good readers and mathematicians.

They learn all this through using the programs on iPads. Right now, students have earbuds to use with the iPads. However, the earbuds don't fit correctly in their tiny ears and the cords get all tangled up. A couple of the earbuds have already broken too. Too much time gets spent in fixing issues with the earbuds rather than using the programs and learning through them. Having durable, over the ear headphones with cords that don't tangle up will fix all these problems. Students will finally be able to get the best use out of our classroom technology.
