This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This funding would be used toward my after school soccer program. This is my third year managing the club at a Title I School in South Los Angeles. I believe in the power of sports to bring people together and inspire our youth to be part of the world’s sport- soccer.

Since I started the program in 2022, interest has increased every year, with over 50 students interested in playing this year.

Many of our students have little to no experience playing organized sports. My goal is to share my passion and knowledge of soccer to the upper grade students who may not otherwise gain experience outside of playing at recess. Many have to wait until middle or high school to be coached for the first time. This is the first year I will coach two teams, with 18 students on each team. Many families do not have the means to provide appropriate clothing and shoes for their scholars.

Every year students come up to me and ask, “Are you the soccer teacher? I really want to join this year and become a professional soccer player!” Adding the element of a team uniform would show them just how real their dreams can become if they believe in themselves and have the support of our school.

With your help, funding would be used to purchase jerseys, shorts, socks, shin guards, goalie gloves, and cleats for our scholar athletes. Thank you very much!
