"Today during guided reading, I will meet with the blue group." "YESSSSS!!!!" All of my blue students exclaim. Guided reading in my classroom is one of the best times of the day. Students love the opportunity to come to the teacher table, wear star glasses while they read and use mechanical pencils.
My students are unbelievable.
They have a drive for learning like I've never seen. My classroom stresses the importance of reading through read-alouds, silent reading, and guided reading. Our school promotes reading for enjoyment, and students LOVE visiting the library. I have created a "comfy" area in my classroom where students who finish work early can go to relax and dive in to a good book.
My Project
These books will enhance our guided reading lessons by providing students the opportunity to read books that are of interest to them. We love to read nonfiction, but I believe that it is important to introduce students to many different genres. During guided reading, small groups of students are all reading the same book so we are able to talk and discuss together. It is always of interest to compare, contrast, and make connections among texts. With these high-interest fiction books, my students will be able to do just that.
Please help my current students, and future students, to see just how much fun reading can be.
These books will allow us to have book talks, practice our comprehension, and have so much fun we won't even realize we're learning! Thank you for your support of my super students and their love for a good book!
