This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your favorite story to read as a child? Do you have fond memories of curling up with a good book and letting time slip away as you read? Do you remember getting caught up in a whole new world as you turned each page? I hope to give those same experiences to my first grade students.
My students are developing readers.
They are eager to read and love the feeling they get when they dive into a good, "just right" book. They get excited when they are able to read a book by themselves and love to read with a friend. I teach at a Title 1 school and 75% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. My students face many struggles in life, learning and feeling successful as they read a good book should not have to be one of them.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of books, all of which are high interest to my students. They will help to create a classroom library that is rich with a variety of different texts my students will love. My students spend anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes a day independent reading. This is a time for them to curl up with a good book and immerse themselves in a world they might otherwise not have access to. I am also requesting book bins to help to organize our classroom library so that students can quickly find a book based not only on topic but also that fits their reading level. With your donation, I hope to have a variety of different books to appeal to all my students and create an enjoyable reading time.
Reading is such an important part of life.
Early and continual access to high interest books is imperative in early education. With these new books, I hope to show my students the pleasure and excitement they can get out of a good book. With your support, we can create life-long readers!
