My students need low level readers, ink, and books. We have books in our school but they simply can not accommodate for the amount of low level readers who need assistance.
Our students live in a high poverty area and still come to school everyday and try their hardest. We have so many students who love coming to school. They love the teachers and support staff.
Our children think of our school as their haven.
We recently celebrated 100 yrs of learning at our school and the students took such pride in being part of this school community. They loved being part of the school that has educated so many children over the last 100 years.
My Project
Our students try their hardest everyday but we simply do not have the amount of low level books needed to accommodate these readers. With a subscription and ink we will be able to print all the books we need, and laminate and bind the books and use them for future classes.
We have a high ESL population and they benefit from these low level readers when they are first learning a new language.
They are able to see pictures and words and associate them. Vocabulary is essential in the begin stages of learning a new language. As their vocabulary grows, they will move into leveled books that help to build their literacy skills too.
I also give rewards to top students in math every week. They are given a printed certificate and a reward. Books make a great reward to allow students to build their own libraries at home.
