Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with a lovely group of 8-9 year olds in a densely populated urban neighborhood outside of Los Angeles. Our school is located in an area of extreme poverty where 100% of our students qualify for free lunch.
No matter how tough their circumstances, these children are filled with enthusiasm and joy.
They are eager to learn and see each new lesson as an adventure. One of the great pleasures of my life is coming up with new ways to engage their minds and give them experiences that will help them understand the world around them and find their place in it.
My Project
My students were blessed these past two years with jump ropes, hula hoops, and balls. (Thank you, DonorsChoose.org donors!)
We’ve been working out every day, jumping, skipping, and hula hooping... Now we’re finding that quick and easy storage will give us about 10 minutes a day of extra play time.
That’s nearly an extra hour every week!!
Additionally, by giving the students a way to organize this equipment, they are learning the life skills of being independent and being in charge of taking care of their materials. This beautiful cart has been designed to be easy to use, lightweight, and sturdy - perfect for a group of students who consider themselves well on the way to being “big kids”!
