This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class love to read! During independent reading, all students actively engage in reading for 30 minutes a day. This practice has really helped my students to cultivate a love of reading.
These 4th grade students in an integrated co-teaching classroom in the Bronx would truly benefit from more technology in the classroom.
When given the opportunity to use technology, student engagement increases, especially the engagement of the students with disabilities. However, our classroom only currently has 2 computers available for student use.
My Project
Given the range of options that could be available for reading on a Kindle Fire, I hope to increase student engagement during independent reading. Additionally, students can use educational apps, independently or in small groups, to remediate skills or to provide enrichment. Finally, I hope that my students will be able to engage in more online research activities, given the increase of technology in our classroom.
By giving my 4th graders access to Kindle Fires to increase engagement during independent reading, provide access to educational apps, and increase research opportunities, my students will be more engaged in active learning.
