Help me give my students flexible and comfortable seating while they are reading and completing their work. As well as, magnetic letters and personal dry erase boards.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello! I am a third-year teacher and every day I get to work with the most amazing kids I have ever met. Many of my students live in poverty and they all receive free breakfast and lunch. To them, books and school supplies are a luxury. Our students work hard and face many personal challenges on a daily basis that impacts their ability to learn. I also work with many bilingual students, some who were even affected by the hurricanes in Puerto Rico two years ago. As a Reading Specialist, I work with the most struggling readers in grades K-3. My students are so limited in what they know and have been exposed to that I need to quickly boost them to an emergent reader level. Reading affects all school subjects. By empowering my students with the gift of reading, I hope to help make them successful in all aspects of their education.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. The Flex-Space Giant Comfy Pillows will give my students another comfortable seating option to complete their work at.
My students are also all faced with the challenge of learning a second language at a young age.
This provides a challenge in which they must overcome to be successful with the Common Core State Standards. My students deserve to be college and career ready. They put forth as much effort as they can to learn to read and become problem solvers. These materials will allow them to achieve their dreams.
These materials will also help students with fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing and language skills. The write and wipe answer boards will come in handy for games and quick assessments in language, comprehension, and vocabulary. It will help me to quickly see who is getting it and who needs more help.
