E-Books on the States, Native Americans and Slavery - Part 2
My students need e-books so they can research the states in America. They also need e-books about slavery, the Native Americans, the Pilgrims, and graphic novel writing.
Each year my fifth grade students work on an alphabet book on the state of their choice. This is a 3-month project, and the finished book is bound and published for free by a generous publisher! Imagine having my class be able to do research using e-books from Britannica
I teach a creative and enthusiastic group of students in a southern California Title I school.
Over 47% of our students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. Our school was selected to be a California Distinguished School because of our ability to reach students at all levels of development by integrating the arts into the academic curriculum.
As part of our fifth grade Social Studies curriculum, my students learn about the history of Native Americans before exploration, the story of Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims, and the history of slavery.
For our Alphabet State Book, each student selects one state to learn about. Reading e-books is an excellent way for my students to practice taking notes from passages read on our classroom and computer lab laptops. When my students take the Smarter Balanced Common Core tests in the Spring, they will taking them from a computer screen. What better way to practice than by taking notes on state books published by Britannica.
My Project
I have requested half of the e-books in this project, and I have requested the remaining e-books in another project. Britannica has generously cut the price of their e-books by half.
This resource will provide my students with great facts they can use to complete their state alphabet book. I have also requested e-books that the class can use in the computer lab to learn about the Pilgrims and slavery in America.
Another class license of e-books I have requested will help my students learn to write a great story. The beautifully illustrated graphic novel e-book will help my students learn the elements of a story and teach them how to create a graphic novel.
Your donation to this project would be greatly appreciated.
My students love using the computer, and I love that they will be able to do some focused note taking and research with these e-books.
What a fantastic combination - beautiful books at my students' reading level, filled with fantastic illustrations and facts. We appreciate your help and consideration of our project.
