Dystopian Films for Analysis

My students need a classroom library of dystopian films to analyze in their dystopian literature class.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Marquart's classroom raised $163

My Students

Are you prepared for the zombie apocalypse? This is just one of the topics that will be studied in the new Dystopian Literature course offered at my high school.

My district approved a new elective for juniors and seniors where they will study post-apocalypse and dystopian literature.

There are not many courses like this at high schools in our area. This group of juniors and seniors is excited to read Young Adult literature like The Hunger Games and Empty, but they will also be analyzing classical texts that include Lord of the Flies, Fahrenheit 451, and even passages from the Bible. To round out this course, I would like to include a vast array of films to analyze.

My Project

I am requesting nine films like 1984, Robocop, In Time, and Looper. By studying dystopian literature and analyzing these films, students will learn the message that this popular genre is sending, a warning that no other genre addresses: We must make changes to take care of the world we live in.

These nine films will give my students the opportunity to learn how to analyze film and how to find dystopian elements in all forms of literature.

My students will be challenged to find the flaws in the societies depicted in each movie and find ways they relate to our world today.
