My Students
Novelty is what keeps my students attention. Novelty comes in many different shapes, sizes, and forms. I want to let my students encounter learning through as many modes as I can. One way I can incorporate novelty is through watching sight word DVDs and listening to books on cd.
I currently have a rambunctious group of 27 first graders who are prime and ready to become amazing readers this year!
Our school is located in a middle class area in Oklahoma.
My district has not yet been able to implement full day kindergarten for every student, so I have students coming to me with all different kinds of ability levels and experiences. Some families will even not choose to go to kindergarten at our school if they do not get the full day slot. This is just another indicator that shows the wide gap that my students have in levels and experiences amongst each other. Despite that, my school has very high standards for the achievement of its students. We try to rise and meet that challenge every day differentiating for each child and meeting them on their level.
My Project
My students will be able to use these portable DVD players during our literacy station time. At the sight word station my students will be able to play sight word DVDs which will help my students read, say, and learn their sight words through fun and catchy graphics and songs. During listen to reading time my students will also be able to use these dvd players to listen to books on cd.
These dvd players are just an added resource to help my students have something independent they can do while I am able to meet with small groups of students.
By donating to this project you will be helping me add another new and novel way to assist my students in the learning process.
You will also be providing me with one more way to help my students be actively engaged in something while I meet with small groups. Small group time is the cornerstone to my students growth and learning.
