Duunnn Dunnn... Duuuunnnn Duun... Shark Night

My students need supplies for a family shark night - shark decorations, shark tooth dig kits, Perler beads to make shark designs, shark books, snacks and shark prizes.

My Students

My students are bursting with energy and have a strong desire to grow and learn.

The majority of my students are Native American and due to the low socioeconomic area we live in, 100 percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.

I am aware of the challenges many of my students face and I make sure that when they walk through my classroom door, they are all given an equal opportunity to learn in a positive, encouraging environment.

My Project

There are many roadblocks that stop families from getting involved, such as demanding schedules or feeling uncomfortable due to cultural differences or their own past experiences in school.

I'm working hard to build strong relationships with families by creating activities that are non-threatening, to get them involved in their child's education.

One of our most exciting units of the year is our nonfiction Shark unit. We read all about sharks, study sharks, create shark research projects, and live and breath everything about sharks. It is so fun to see students engaged and taking ownership of their learning.

In order to get families involved in our shark unit, I want to invite them to our classroom to move through different shark activities with their children. Together they'll follow directions, problem solve, and students will be able to share our classroom learning with their families.

They'll be able to excavate for shark teeth with the requested kits, work on shark puzzles, get stumped with our shark facts, read new shark books, create shark designs with the requested Perler beads, and get their photo taken at the photo booth. The decorations will help set the stage for a fun evening and the prizes will reward families for learning different facts about sharks throughout the night.

I hope these actives will benefit my students while engaging families as partners in our students' learning.
