My Project
In my classroom, creating a focused, calm learning environment is essential especially in our Science laboratory, where movement and collaboration are key parts of our daily routine. One of the biggest, most overlooked disruptions is the constant screeching of chairs on tile floors. This high-pitched noise echoes throughout the room and distracts students from lessons, small group work, and even independent reading.
These will make a big difference in our Science lab, where tables and chairs are moved frequently during experiments, group work, and lab setups.
In the past, I’ve used tennis balls on chair legs to minimize the noise, but they simply don’t hold up. They wear out quickly, fall off easily, and unfortunately, students often pull them off and use them as toys. We need a more lasting solution — that’s why I’m requesting chair socks made of durable felt and zip ties.
Felt chair socks, when securely fastened with zip ties, offer many advantages: They significantly reduce scraping and dragging sounds, creating a quieter space that supports focus and learning. Unlike tennis balls, felt chair socks don’t crack, rip, or wear down quickly. They’re designed to last the whole school year, even with daily use. The addition of zip ties keeps the socks firmly in place, preventing them from falling off or becoming a distraction. They help prevent scratches and marks on tile or linoleum floors. No loose parts for students to play with or trip over, making the classroom safer and orderly.
These chair socks will be installed the week before the new school year begins. Having this in place right from the start sets the tone for a focused and respectful learning environment all year long. Thank you for considering a donation to help us build a better place to learn, grow, and succeed!
