My Students
I teach in a preschool room in a low-income school district. My students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I strive to provide them with a fun, interactive, safe, and meaningful learning environment. As their teacher, I try to instill the importance of communicating/listening to one another, being a good citizen and leader, and using trauma-informed techniques to aid them in their social-emotional development.
My students have various learning styles' backgrounds and needs.
Due to being located in an inner-city, funding is extremely hard to come by, and in order to provide my students with the best learning experiences I can give them, I typically find ways to procure these items and experiences out of pocket or by any means I can, which is where DonorsChoose.org comes in.
My Project
Our classroom has a block table that was rescued from a Craigslist ad and it is quickly becoming one of our favorite classroom centers during free choice time. While our block area leads to lots of towers and bridges, having additional parts for imaginative play would create more possibilities for play.
This project is for Duplo people and animal figures to go into our classroom block area to encourage imaginative play and story-telling.
By having figures available in the block area as options for play, it will allow students more play possibilities, encourage imaginative play and story telling, and help special education students with social play goals have more concrete objects available to them to work on creating and communicating their play goals.
