it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The opportunity school I teach at is special in many ways. The students who come our way were not finding success in a typical high school setting, so they come to this small campus with reduced class sizes and specially trained teachers to get a second chance at a diploma. One thing that is unique here is that students do not bring any backpacks or supplies to campus (mostly for safety purposes). To accommodate this rule, teachers provide everything the students require. When they walk into class, they pick up their binders and keep all of the materials in class for the quarter. At the end of the quarter, students switch classes, and we re-use the binders year after year. The binders we currently have are very beaten up and are falling apart.

Do you have more duct tape?" This is what I hear daily as the binders we have been re-used for the past 5 years (also provided by DonorsChoose) have hit their shelf life and need to be retired. The kids at our school find that most of what we have here is whatever the "regular" schools have thrown away and we get as our "new" supplies. I want my students to not feel second best by always having things that are hand-me-downs that are falling apart.
This donation for new binders will last me 5 years (as that is how long the previous set donated through DonorsChoose has lasted) which will really be appreciated by myself and my students. I think that students just feel better when they have pencils with erasers, clean desks and hopefully soon, fresh binders that are not held together by duct tape.
