Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the proud teacher of an amazing group of 3rd graders in a community school in Harlem, where more than three-quarters of students come from low-income households. In spite of this my students are hard workers, enthusiastic and eager to become stronger readers and mathematicians.
My biggest challenge is that the majority of my students are significantly behind academically.
Over 70% are starting the school year reading below grade level; 40% are considered English Language Learners; and too many have not mastered second grade math learning standards.
But it is my committed to help them reach their full potential! With your support I can meet my goal of 80% of my students making a year and a half growth in reading and reaching proficiency levels in this year's math and reading state exams.
My Project
I am requesting a whiteboard on wheels so that my students can benefit from more visual instruction, especially during whole group instruction. As we meet and learn on the carpet area, we study reading, writing and math. It is often necessary for me to hang up models of work or steps to solve the problems we are working through. The children will be able to see the lesson we are working on and any examples needed in one area. I believe using this will be more beneficial to their learning process. This easel will allow me to do just that!
Our classroom lessons on the carpet will be so much more effective with an easel like this!
