This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a school-wide (100%) free or reduced-price lunch Title I and low performing school (Program Improvement School). Eighty percent of my students are English language learners. Our community is culturally diverse and socioeconomically low. Because most of our parents do not speak English and work many part-time jobs, it's hard for parents to get involved in their children's learning. Many of my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students work hard and love to learn!
School, for many of my students, is their safe haven! We are a family.
My Project
Distance learning has been an adventure for my students and myself. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to keep my students engaged and on task. Teaching from a screen is hard to see what my students are doing. When I ask my kids to show me their work, I'm straining my eyes to see their notebooks.
For my eyes' sake, my students need whiteboards.
I know there are apps my students can use but with limited teaching time, I can't afford to lose time when students struggle with other websites. And you can't use a whiteboard without dry erase markers.
I'm also looking for fun and engaging projects, activities, and curriculum from Teachers Pay Teachers during distance learning. Teachers Pay Teachers is a great resource in keeping kids motivated to learn.
