This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My students attend one of the largest public elementary schools in Wisconsin, with nearly 800 students, 98% of whom qualify for free and reduced price lunches. As the second and third grade English as a Second Language Teacher, I help to bridge Spanish and English Literacy.
If you were to enter my classroom, you would hear students speaking primarily in Spanish, but as I enter the room students begin to shift to English!
They are bridging two languages to become future leaders in an ever-changing world and I will do all that I can to support them.
My Project
The COVID-19 Pandemic has greatly impacted my English Learners. We have learned remotely since the beginning of the school year and will continue to do so until further notice.
The resilience of my English Learners is amazing!
They log on every day and give 100% to their learning. These dry erase boards and markers will give them another engaging way to participate in live meetings.
My students are very excited to receive materials from school. They love participating and these resources will give them a new and exciting way to do so.
