This year, I am working with a great bunch of first graders! In my class, I have 30 of the most loving, caring, and brightest scholars! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.
My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.
We will use this time together not only for them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.
That's where DonorsChoose.org comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.
My Project
We will use the 2-sided dry erase boards to help with writing sentences as a class. At the beginning of the year we write a lot of sentences together. The children will be able to practice writing the sentences correctly with me as I model for them. Since the boards are 2-sided it will be easy for the children to follow along, with the lines for writing sentences on one side. The children can also use the dry erase boards in centers to practice writing and their spelling words. The dry erase packets will be used for centers as well.
The dry erase paddles will be used for math.
These paddles will be an excellent way for me to check mid-lesson if the children are understanding the math concept I am teaching. I can write a problem on the board, and the children can answer the questions on their dry erase paddle, and hold it up for me to see. Since they are paddles, it will be easier for the children to hold them up.
