Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from a Title I school; we are located in a low income neighborhood. They are eager to learn but lack the necessary supplies. School starts in August, and parents struggle to purchase supplies or even uniforms.
My students come to school with hopes and dreams.
I want to enhance their dreams by increasing their knowledge. Fifth grade is a crossroads for my students as they are on their way to middle school. My students enjoy working in workstations.
My Project
This project will fulfill many needs. To begin, we are in need of dry erase boards to check for understanding throughout the lesson. The dry erase boards will be paired with dry erase markers and erasers. We use the tape to add notes to our journals, and we use color pens to color code our notes. We are in need of privacy folders because the ones in our classroom are in need of replacing. Copy paper is always needed at our school.
We also need math initiatives that are tracked in assignment trackers.
Even my 5th graders need a treasure chest. My students come to school hungry, and when they stay after school for tutorials, I want to be able to provide snacks. I’ve added some cleaning supplies because we want to have a welcoming classroom. The most exciting part of the project is the board games. I want to repurpose the boards into math games.
