Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Everyone should be able to make some music. It's the cosmic dance." (From the film HAROLD AND MAUDE) The children in my chorus and music classes are learning that no matter what their backgrounds are (musically and otherwise), they are capable of bringing music to the world.
We are a Staten Island elementary school servicing a multicultural population of students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students are eager to participate in the arts, and that is a big focus in our building. Our children demonstrate all kinds of talents beyond their academics and we try our best to offer as many extracurricular activities as part of a well-rounded education.
My Project
The dry erase board for which we are hoping to get funding will be a huge asset to their music education. It will serve as a visual aid to be used in conjunction with the audio component of their music classes, assisting them as they are learning to read notes and rhythms. Our fifth grade chorus members will get further use from the board as they will have the advantage of seeing the lyrics in front of them while learning new songs for their repertoire.
This dry erase board will allow my students to have a better understanding behind music theory and will make it easier to outline more difficult musical concepts.
I have no doubt that it will make music more accessible to many more children in our school.
