This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from diverse backgrounds but fifty percent come from poverty. Still others come from other challenging circumstances including trauma-related experiences. Despite their personal challenges they come to school and love learning. My sixth and seventh-graders' experience with science to this point is limited. I want to take advantage of the enthusiasm that these students bring to middle school science.

Something as simple as a dry erase board helps me to teach real-time concepts and allows students to participate in review games, presentations and more.

I currently have a white board that is an old shower wall removed from a refurbished house. It does not erase and is not magnetic. Just last week we had a unit final and because of the "shower wall" quality, I could not erase the review questions and answers before the test. Something as simple as a true dry erase board would be so helpful in my classroom.

My Project

A fully-funded project will install this magnetic dry erase board in place of the old shower stall wall that I currently must use. I have secured a professional contractor volunteer to secure this dry erase board to my classroom wall. I will be able to write on the board to teach real-time content whether we are fully in-school learning or virtual from my classroom. Imagine my students using the board for classroom review contests and student-led presentations! The magnetic nature will serve dual purpose to hang anchor charts, vocabulary words, photos, and key concepts. The best part, because it's a true dry-erase board, I'll be able to fully erase teaching content when it is test time!
