My Students
As a 5th grade teacher my job is to ensure that every single one of my 40 students excel. Regardless of where they are coming from each morning or where they are headed when I dismiss them, it is my responsibility to prepare them for middle school and beyond.
They are a bunch of amazing kids in a title 1, low income school in the Harlem section of New York City.
While some of my students are in foster homes or living in a shelter with their family, they are all excited little beams of hope when they walk into my classroom every morning. They are curious about learning, putting their thinking caps on the minute they walk in. They understand that nothing in life is easy or free, and so they give them their best everyday.
My Project
To maximize their learning time we are requesting a whiteboard to be used during whole group lessons/discussions. My students need learning targets, vocabulary or even brainstorm lists available at all times. Furthermore, many times they need a space to work out their ideas with the help of their classmates and not have it erased when we move on to the next slide or presentation as it is our case now. It will also help us reduce our use of chart paper.
By having this dry erase board in our classroom it will greatly reduce our use of chart paper when we are jotting down ideas and brainstorming, but most importantly it will give students a place to work out their ideas.
