My Students
My students are looking for a new and fun way to practice and play rhythms. What is a better way than using drumsticks as the method of teaching?
My students attend a rural elementary school that does not have much money to spend on music materials.
The money that is given each year is continually getting less and less. Unfortunately our school is also almost 25 years old and most of the materials we have are outdated or broken. The students here are happy, inquisitive and are always wanting to do things that are new and "hip".
My Project
Using drumsticks in the classroom allows us to present vital information to the students in a fun and unique way. Students are interested in drum sets, bands, and music that involves these things. They are much more interested in learning if they are dually learning a useful skill. A very fun activity for the students is to have them play rhythms along with fun music so that they feel as though they are playing with the musicians on the track.
With these drumsticks students will have a new connection to music that is current and in their realm of interest.
Getting students personally connected with music is our goal and by using creative methods, we can reach students that are missed by traditional methods.
