Drums Around the World

Help me give my students world percussion instruments to create music in our classroom! The grouped sets of drums end up being more affordable than buying single drums, and the variety can provide choices for students.

My Students

We are an urban middle school with an enormous ELL population-our school is the base of the English learning program in our district, and our Special Education population is large as well.

My students are enthusiastic music-makers and creators who deserve an equitable chance in music education!

Our students hail from a low socioeconomic area and just LOVE music. They are growing despite various levels of trauma and music has become therapeutic for them.

This being my first year in the district, I have been developing curriculum for these students and building upon their musical skills with growing intensity. I can see their interest and skills increase with each class, and want to foster the love of music in each child.

My Project

My students will not only be able to create original percussive rhythms using these drums and work collaboratively to raise skills in rhythm reading and playing, but also communicate effectively through music composition.

Help our students grow as musicians through world drumming!

Our school has few materials for classroom percussion and this will open up new opportunities for all of us in music education. These drums will be well loved and used for years to come.

The drums will be used in a drumming unit designed specifically for each grade, and offer the opportunity for performances at school and community events (assemblies, concerts, etc).
