Help me give my students enough individual hand drums to make music together!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. King's classroom raised $517

My Students
Situated in a rural, high poverty area, my school engages learners in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We are a positive behavior support school and strive to give our students the best opportunities available to create safe, kind, respectful, responsible learners.
Most of my students do not have access to instruments at home and get most of their music experience in my classroom.
Cultural centers and concert halls are more than an hour away and are often too expensive for students' families. These factors make what happens in music class even more important.
My Project
These drums are versatile and sturdy, two essentials for a busy music classroom! I teach 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and in those three grades there is much diversity. From remediation to enhancing lessons for gifted learners, the 50 minutes I see them every week in music must include it all. These instruments are sorted by size and color. The larger instruments make lower sounds and the smaller instruments make higher sounds. This will allow special learners to compose using only color symbols rather than notation and will allow gifted learners to explore and compose in 4 or 5 parts.
These instruments are immediately accessible to learners of all abilities.
What a joy to play an instrument with an entire class and be successful! This builds community cooperation skills and improves critical listening skills. Students will use these instruments as part of drum circles, to create ostinato accompaniments, to compose and to explore movement.
