My Students
Situated in a rural, high poverty area, my school engages learners in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We are a positive behavior support school and strive to give our students the best opportunities available to create safe, kind, respectful, responsible learners.
Most of my students do not have access to instruments at home and get most of their music experience in my classroom.
Cultural centers and concert halls are more than an hour away and are often too expensive for students' families. These factors make what happens in music class even more important.
My Project
Recently my students have been working in drum circles to improve their rhythm and listening skills. Students learn to listen and communicate with others, celebrate success and encourage each other during challenges. Right now students have to share instruments to participate. Your support would guarantee that all of my students get a chance to play all together at the same time.
Working together in a drum circle gives students the opportunity not to just improve their musicianship but to work together to make music in a positive community environment.
Student engagement is 100% and working together in music class to create one sound creates a bond that a regular character education lesson can't touch.
Your donation will provide drums, cowbells and agogo bells to our classroom. These instruments will allow all students to perform at the same time. The diversity of the sounds these instruments create will also provide a rich and distinct sound to our ensemble. Will you help us keep the beat playing on?
