My Students
Music is a universal language! At one time or another, every young child grabs something around the house and starts drumming. Fascinating rhythms make everyone want to move.
I teach about 350 students in grades K-6.
About 60% are assisted with a free or reduced price lunch. For many, elementary music class is the only exposure they will receive to music. All my grade levels love instrument time! Sadly, my classroom does not have drums. I hope to change that through this project.
My Project
I would like a class set of "sound shapes" drums in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Sound shapes are thin and easy to store. Different sizes, shapes, and colors excite students while also teaching them Science facts such as pitch/size relationships. The activity book will provide guidance to make the most of our sound shapes. In addition, the spring "thunder" drum will be a fun way to tie in to nature as we "drum up a storm"!
My school is ethnically and economically diverse.
By making awesome music and having fun together, I hope to unite my students and give them pride in themselves and in each other. Thank you for helping my students achieve!
