My Students
Our homemade plastic Easter egg shakers are falling apart! My students need something a little more sturdy and fun to help them learn rhythms.
Many of my students come from very challenging backgrounds.
Their families have little or no money and cannot provide the things they need. If some of them cannot afford pencils and paper, where does that leave a place for music? Without the help of the school and music class, they will not learn how important music is in helping to create a well rounded individual.
My Project
I believe that students should receive a balance between instrumental music and choral music in elementary school. Teaching instrumental music on the scale that I would like to is not financially feasible at this point.
Through the use of DonorsChoose.org and the help of many generous donors I have been able to teach my students the recorder. I now want to expand that by adding percussion pedagogy as well. In order to do this I need drum sticks and practice pads for my students. Being able to teach entire classes rhythm in a fun way will build a foundation for their musical endeavors.
I want to allow my students to have every opportunity that I can provide for them; they deserve that.
My students work hard and are thankful for everything they receive. My job is to keep their love of music alive and this project will help to do just that!
