My Students
My students have really struggled with distance learning since the pandemic began in March, 2020 and our school district went to online school only. Even though K-5 grade students in my district are in hybrid learning environment now, all music classes are still being taught 100% online. We are hopeful that music classes will be taught in person in the fall, but I will need a class set of rhythm instruments to use with my younger students.
This school is a 100% poverty school where families struggle to provide basic necessities for their children.
We do not have a functioning PTO/PTA group at our school, so it up to the administration to find funds for my music classes and their budget is always stretched way too thin. Funds from sources such as DonorsChoose.org help to fill in the funding gaps.
My Project
While we have been teaching music in a completely remote setting via Zoom this school year, it is looking hopeful that my district will be able to return to in-person elementary music classes this fall.
In order to prepare for teaching in the era of Covid, I need a rhythm instrument for each student in the classroom.
This will allow all of my students to participate in music making during our weekly general music classes.
Our school's budget has been stretched thin this year as we have made sure that students have what they needed to learn both at home and at school. We started the year 100% virtual and are now in a hybrid model, even though music classes are still 100% online.
