My Students
Help our students experience life through music making.
Our school is a small public school for students with disabilities.
We are mainly a school for students with autism. Currently, our kids are between kindergarten and second grade age group. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, and live all over the NYC region.
My Project
Music, for children with autism, is one of the most important subjects. The power of music is one of the few subjects that can reach them. When in the presence of music, students with autism are able to understand, communicate, participate, and focus better than in other instances. Music is known to improve autistic students' cognitive abilities. Through using musical instruments, we are able to teach them life skills through engaging and musical activities.
This project is important to my students in that it will help them understand music better, as well as teach them life skills.
Through music making, students will be able to improve in: gross motor skills, speech, turn taking, comprehension skills, singing, and coordination. Through music, we have the power to teach them life skills that they will be able to incorporate in real world experiences.
