This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is composed of 21 energetic, inquisitive, and curious students who love to learn. They particularly respond to activities that are hands on.
My students are particularly engaged in learning when they have room to practice a particular skill, as well as when they are given the opportunity to create on their own.
One hundred percent of students at our school are eligible for the free lunch program, and about 30% are identified as English Language Learners. Despite these potential obstacles, my students are determined to make goals and to achieve them.
My Project
These 25 frame drums will get so much use in our classroom. I have read that drums can help students to learn to focus. When you are drumming a beat, you need to focus in on the task at hand. This can help students to step away from a world of stress, and instead, focus in on the sound created by their hands and the drum.
Furthermore, there are a lot of mathematical benefits from drumming.
Drumming can help students to follow and create their own patterns, which is very useful when manipulating numbers. In addition, students can strengthen their understanding of intervals of time and frequency while they are following or creating a beat.
