it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Throughout this year, we have been steadily building our inventory of percussion equipment, and the excitement and the zeal to learn about music has been tremendous. We have managed to build our inventory up so that the majority of students have frame drums to perform and create music on. Having an additional nine frame drums will make it possible for every student, in each grade level, to have a frame drum of their own to study on. Incorporating the various sizes of frame drums helps to diversify the drumming ensemble timbre, and make it more flexible to differentiate (e.g. Pre-K exploration of steady beat with smaller sizes vs. 4th grade rhythmic studies poetry with different musical forms).
The primary goal of this project is to create an inclusive and enriching musical environment where each student has access to their own frame drum.
This not only promotes equity within the classroom but also empowers students to explore and express their creativity through music. As they develop a sense of ownership with their instruments, students can build confidence in their musical abilities and develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Additionally, playing with frame drums fosters teamwork and communication skills, creating a positive and supportive learning community within the classroom.
