Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach general music to over 550 students in an urban PreK-8 school. I see each general music class once a week. That's a lot of kids making music!!
Many of our students enjoy making music by drumming. We currently do not have enough money to purchase new instruments. Many of our instruments are broken and unrepairable. Our guiros are cracked and missing the scraper. It would be great to have a large gathering drum for many students to use at once. Help us make music!
The large gathering drum will enable many students to participate at once. The guiros will be used by multiple individual students throughout grade levels. All these instruments together will help students learn to keep a steady beat, perform in a drumming ensemble and/or learn how to improvise using percussion instruments.
Your gift will help our students create rhythms and sounds that make music to our ears! We will use these instruments not only in the classroom, but also in school performances.
