Drumming Around the World - Part 2

My students need African tubano drums in order to study world music.

My Students

My students are enthusiastic learners of music who love to sing, dance, play instruments and musical games. They especially love learning songs and playing instruments from around the world.

My student population and represent cultures and countries from around the world.

As such, they take particular delight in studying and I experiencing the music of cultures that they represent. Playing instruments is a particularly meaningful experience because the instruments we use are unique to the elementary music classroom.

My Project

My students will use these Tubano drum in three distinct ways. First students will use the drums to practice both known and new rhythm pattern. Second, students will use the Tubano drums as part of community drum circles where students have the opportunity to imitate and improvise rhythm patterns together. Finally students will be able to interact with authentic African song and instrument playing experiences as they accompany each other while playing African songs and games.

This project is important to my classroom because currently we only have access to generic hand drums.

Adding three Tubano drums will enable me to facilitate authentic world music experiences for my students. Thank you for your support.
