My students need a class set of drum mutes, staccato timpani mallets, a package of drum sticks and a tubano to help us explore drumming styles of different cultures.
In the light of recent tragic events, my students bring about hope for a better future. While they hail from all over the globe, speak a multitude of different languages and come from a wide array of economic situations, they work together in unity. Through playing in a band together they learn the values of teamwork, tolerance, understanding and loyalty. We see our wonderful diversity as an asset and a strength. I can only hope that they can carry this notion of setting aside differences to achieve unity into the future.

My Project
There is no better way to comprehend the music of diverse cultures than to be immersed in it. Through our general music classes we hope to provide holistic experiences for our students by teaching them to play rhythmic styles representing diverse cultures.
With all that is going on in our world today, our sincere is hope to build tolerance and understanding of a wide range of cultures through our drumming classes.
Since we do not own a complete set of world music drums at this time, we will be primarily using buckets. Thirty students playing on bucket drums is to say the very least damaging to the ears. We will use the class set of drum mutes to dampen the sound produced when hitting the buckets. The tubano drum will add to our small but growing inventory of world music drums and the sticks will be used to hit the buckets.
