My students come in to music class expecting to be challenged, to learn something new but also to have a little fun! They are excited to sing, they are excited to dance, they are excited to play instruments, they are just welll... excited young adults!
My students are sweet, bright and are hungry to learn more about music.
They have a heart for music and are interested in singing, but also playing on the instruments I have in my classroom. I have a guitar class and also three choir groups that I am interested in having learn the drums. It is a great skill, but I am also looking to teach them so that I can have a few of my students accompany the choirs on drums as well as the guitar class in concerts and performances.
My Project
My students would be learning this instrument in class as a new instrument skill. The drums requires thought, focus and coordination. By having a drum set and allowing students to learn it, they are putting into practice the rhythm skills we work on all the time. I can just picture their faces when this project is funded and they walk into my room and see a drum set. They would all want to learn because they are such great musicians. They might also catch me jamming on the drums after school, you never know!
This project would make a difference because it would be another opportunity for my students to learn a new instrument.
Students who have never had the chance to play a drum set might come to find they have a natural talent for it and they have never played an instrument before. It is exciting to me to think about all the ways we could use a drum set in my classes and choirs. Help me give these deserving students a wonderful opportunity to rock out,to be a better musician than they already are!
