This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a brand new school that is part of LAUSD. This is a very small city in LA County with the highest population density. All of our students are from low-income families. My students joined band as an extra-curricular activity and have worked diligently all year to represent themselves, myself, our school, and community very well; I am so proud of them.
Our band program is build around the foundation of celebrating progress and developing a strong work ethic.
The amount of progress these incredible students have made is astonishing. In our first year, we didn't have instruments until January (half-way through the year). Despite this, merely a year later, our band was given the rating of "excellent" at a band festival in March of 2019.
My Project
The drum-line technician will act as the direct instructor for the drum-line in its inaugural season. She will work directly with the Marching Band Director in order to maximize time and student learning. They will work on drum cadences and all the marching band repertoire including the season's field show.
The drum-line is one of the most essential aspects of a marching band.
Ensuring they have a personal coach will create the best sound for their first season. Every rehearsal, sectional, football game, and festival or competition will include our drum-line technician in order to set our students up for success.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
