My Students
"Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof...because I'm happy!" That was our first day of drumming in music class this year! We played along with the summer anthem "Happy" on a variety of drums. The kids had a blast! I want to continue to keep this excitement through the school year.
Our school is passionate about creating lifelong learners in and out of the classroom.
Our district motto is "joined as one, we get the job done." It's completely true! Teachers, parents and students work together to stretch our resources, so everyone has enough and can still have an amazing learning experience. My students are enthusiastic about experiencing music hands-on and taking those skills out into their life outside of school.
My Project
Drums let the students experience music in a new way. These instruments will allow every student to participate. Also, they are new and solid, while many of our drums are falling apart, losing screws or getting tears. They can be dangerous to the students if not repaired immediately.
Currently, we are rotating and sharing the working instruments. This project would let every student have drums at the same time, letting them create music with one another or starting drum circles. We will also be able to improve our rhythms, steady beat and composition skills with these drums. Many of them have beautiful artwork on the outside, allowing for connections with art classes and world music. These would be a great addition to our classroom and truly make the students "Happy" to continue drumming during the school year.
This project will allow every student to use different kinds of drums at the same time.
We can work individually, with partners or create a drum circle without having to worry if someones instrument will fall apart again because of loose tape or bolts. The students love being hands-on learners with drums and helping one another keep the beat and play rhythms. Also, these drums are made for students and are durable for every day use for many years in our school.
