My Project
As an adaptive music teacher, I have students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and severe disabilities and, with a bit of tailored instruction and patience, it's truly beautiful to hear their growth as young musicians. I also teach students with emotional disabilities who are naturally musically talented and hungry to learn more. All my students love to play instruments, especially the tubano, which is a tall, large drum, that when played, creates satisfying deep tones. Tubanos are best suited for drum circles, which also happens to be my students' favorite activity. Drum circles build a sense of community, as they require students to listen to and look at each other, practice taking turns, and participate in call and response. Students will listen to and imitate the rhythms of mother nature, discover and explore their creativity, and regulate their emotions through these activities. For four years, my students have been sharing only one tubano and many small, old drums with poor sound quality. It's time they have better, and you can help us get there!
By donating, you make three Remo Nesting Tubano Drums accessible to a large group of nuero-diverse students, both mobile and wheelchair bound, in-not just one-but eleven schools in the city of Richmond!
The drum heads are removeable and sit nicely on a wheel chair desk, allowing all students to participate in drum circle! The nesting feature allows for three drums to take the space of one, making them portable to many buildings.
