My Students
My students know that we have 2 rules in our kindergarten class "to learn and to have fun". No matter what skill we are learning we must show evidence of what we have learned. In my class I accept any form of evidence. Some children are more confident expressing themselves through art than words.
My school is a small hidden gem in a big city.
My kindergarten students are enthusiastic and work hard at everything they do. I try to plan as many fun, engaging, and integrated activities as our schedule will fit. I try to give them opportunities to experience things that they would not normally have. One thing that always gets them excited and motivated is if tell them we will be painting. We paint every chance we get. We paint for culminating activities, behavior incentives, arts and crafts, and sometimes when we've had an exceptionally stressful day we just paint to paint. Its amazing to see how frustration floats away for some the minute they pick up a paint brush.
My Project
With spring time right around the corner we will be learning about life cycles of plants and animals. By having these paint materials at our fingertips we are open to so many possibilities. I plan on introducing them to some of the works of Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keefe, and Wassily Kandinsky as well as give them opportunities to create their own masterpieces as well as remake one of their favorite paintings by a famous artist. In addition to art appreciation we will continue to use the materials as we master our end of year skills.
By donating to this project you will giving my amazing group of kindergarten children endless opportunities to express themselves through art.
In addition to self expression, my students will gain confidence when showing evidence of learning when they are given the chance to show what they know through art instead of paper and pencil tests.
