My Project
My first graders have finally started to develop confidence and pleasure in their ability to read on their own! I would love to give them the opportunity to independently read books of their choosing every day, giving them a sense of ownership over their learning!
This project will give each of my students their very own book bin to fill up with books of their choosing from our classroom library.
During independent reading time, they will easily be able to grab their bin from the shelf, get comfy, and READ! Having their own bin will allow them to keep their personal favorites safe and sound until they are ready to trade them out, eliminating the fear that another student might take their preferred reads before they are finished with them. Also, each book bin will have a sand timer to help hold them accountable for the amount of time they are reading each day. A whisper phone will also be included in each book bin so that students can hear themselves read without having to get too loud and disturb their neighbors. This will help with fluency, focus, pronunciation, and so much more!
