My Students
I have a wide variety of students with varied interests. They enjoy sports such as football, baseball, soccer, and dance. My students come from an urban area, and we are considered a high poverty school. I try to make every day fun and full of wonderful as much movement as possible. This is important to me because the children in my class need to get out as much energy as possible in order to be able to learn the material being taught.
My Project
I teach 4th grade and need age-appropriate, culturally diverse books that are relevant to my students. My school does not have a library, so I want to put as many books as possible in my classroom. So my scholars have access to literature. I want to foster a love for reading by having books that children will want to read. Classroom libraries are one of the specific areas where it's difficult to find funding, as they are entirely created by teachers. It's important for students to have access to these libraries because not only does it show an assortment of what I read, which is essential to modeling, but it gives them the atmosphere that reading is important. Having these books in my classroom will make teaching guided reading and good reading habits easier.
