Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a school with lots of low income families which serves over 600 students. My school is located in the city of New Britain which has the 8th largest population of any city in Connecticut. This city struggles with high crime rate, violence, youth arrests and drug/alcohol abuse.
These specific items will motivate students with an attendance ceremony to help drive students back to school and encourage parent involvement.
A printer will help with creating colorful attendance recognition certificates for our students. This will be an incentive to motivate students to continue coming to school each and every day. The A-frame sign will help direct families into the building and help them navigate around the building.
The goal of this project is to bring more life to the attendance ceremony and to decrease the number of chronic absentees by positively reinforcing attendance of students and families. This is why we need certificates to be made.
Supporting this project will bring benefits to over 400 families, also helping with staff and family involvement. Our students are so grateful for everything. Bringing these new items to this school would have such an impact on the way students get recognition. We could create more meaningful certificates for the students, showing that staff appreciate and care about the success of students and the efforts that students make. The 600+ kids in our school make sure to try their best, even with the daily struggle they face in the community.
