Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are kind and loving individuals who have been identified with various different significant disabilities. They come to school every morning with big smiles and big hearts. Throughout the day students are presented with many different learning activities which are designed to help solidify the skills that were introduced throughout high school. The students within this classroom are encouraged to learn various sustainable farming procedures, horticulture concepts, and the production of urban farming. This class focuses on teaching students the job readiness skills they will need for gainful employment in a garden or horticulture type of environment.
My special education students are all between the ages of 18-22 and are working on vocational, transition, and career readiness skills in the area of horticulture.
These new tools will allow students to help build various construction projects for the garden. This battery-powered drill will replace the corded drill that we are currently using. These measurement tools will also help students make accurate marks for the pieces to be cut. Students will learn to make things plumb, level, and precise when creating planter boxes or trellises. Students will benefit from being able to make accurate determinations of where screws are supposed to be placed and have a modern tool to do the job.
