Dressed to Impress

My Students

This has been an amazing school year despite a worldwide pandemic and many social concerns. My students have persevered academically, socially, and emotionally. They have been honored with local and statewide construction student of the month achievements, statewide sporting awards, and high honors in academics. Every one of my construction students passed their national testing for construction credentials for year one!

Construction class gives them time, space, and freedom to explore careers in the trades and develop personal interests in construction related skills.

These 9th through 12th graders look forward to spending two hours in my non-traditional class where they can be out of their seats moving around with hands-on learning. As the first female trades teacher in our district, I'm excited to open this opportunity up to all students and am especially excited to help young women feel comfortable and confident learning construction skills.

My Project

Throughout the school year, construction and carpentry students participate and compete in leadership and construction competitions. These competitions require both professional and trade related attire. Through the generosity of several community members, I have been able to source competition uniforms for the students to use. Between a busy classroom and a dusty construction shop, we have no clean place to store the uniforms. Over the summer, I plan to convert my office into a girls' changing room and a place to store our competition wear. With a wardrobe closet and coat hangers, our uniforms will stay clean and wrinkle free between competitions.
